Walking Papers album 1 (2012)
Already Dead is a brilliant opener that grabs your attention with its moody tone. The Whole Worlds Watching is an absolutely brilliant stomper of a track it's loud, exciting, attention grabbing with it's scorching hot vocals and great beat. It's content is something everyone that feels a need for excitement and change can relate to. It's a great one to sing along to if you need cheering up especially the part where there's a big growl! Epic guitar riferry mixed with such strong vocal delivery makes this a fantastic addition to the album.
Your Secrets Safe With Me is a dark story with great imagery. Red Envelopes is a rock ‘n’ roll song about naughty boys and their induction to a rock n roll lifestyle. Leave Me In The Dark is an absolutely gorgeous track with beautiful guitar tone and a romantic
vocal. 'If love is blind baby, leave me in the dark'. The Butcher is a dark story presented well with a fabulous piano like sound. Two Tickets And A Room is a dark and dirty story told by steamy vocals, a fabulously pulsating bass and infectious drums. I'll Stick Around has a beautiful guitar sound and a warm bass. Capital T opens with a dance drum rhythm, a dirty walking bass and great bluesy growls this would be a great crowd
mover at live gigs. This track has great pace. A Place Like This is a classy very atmospheric number with a hint of the exotic. It has great rhythm and sway and excellent lyrical story telling. Beautiful! There seems to be a theme with this album and that's vivid storytelling and absolutely wonderfully written lyrical content. Independence Day just adds more cement to that statement.
Walking Papers 2 (2018) once again like the first Walking Papers album the opening track My Luck Pushed Back doesn't let you down after hearing that you want to explore the rest of the album. Death On The Lips has a wonderfully raspy vocal with an edge. It's moody and matched by an equally moody bass. Red And White has a brilliant chorus and it showcases a lovely American accent really well. Somebody Else has a fast paced beat that helps create a feel of danger. It's exciting 'I don't recognise myself it's time to turn into somebody else'. There's a wonderfully moody and luscious vocal on Yours Completely. Hard To Look Away has a naughty theme 'you don't leave much to the imagination but when you're back in circulation it's hard to look away'. Before You Arrived sounds like there's more naughty women in this song! Don't Owe Me Nothin' has a wonderfully sultry vocal and a great sway to the back beat. This Is How It Ends is another dark story presented in an exciting way of heavy bass and growling vocals. I Know You're Lying has a prominent bass and a catchy chorus. Into The Truth has a funky rythm and a lot of power to it. King Hooker is an example of fabulous slide guitar and a great beat. It presents a brilliant vocal style and is an infectious number. Right In Front Of Me is an intimate track, you can hear the individual sounds of the strings as the notes change. Which definitely adds to the character of the song it makes you feel alone with the artist like you are 'right in front' of them. It works well at the end of the album because it's almost like you've heard all their deep and dark secrets throughout the album and then this is them laid bare.
Walking Papers albums are long players they are perfect works of dark art from start to finish but you need time to appreciate them in their full glory, they're not background music. The stories deserve the full attention of your ears. Two luscious bodies of work right there, get them bought!
